The Summer open is a golfing tradition at Daniel Owen that has been going for over 2 decades. It began as a fun weekend away on the south coast for work colleagues to play two days of golf. Over the years it has expanded to include friends and now over 20 years later the competition is still as fierce as it ever was.

The 2016 event took place in the south west, seeing the golfers tackle The Players Club near Chipping Sudbury and The Wiltshire near Wootton Bassett, with an overnight stay in Bristol.

Day one was a hotly contested affair in wet and muggy conditions and at the end there was only 6 points separating the top 8 players. The overnight leader was Garfield, who scored an impressive 39 points and also took “Nearest the Pin”. “Longest Drive” was won by Jon.

Day two saw much better playing conditions and further good scoring, seeing the top five finish within four points of each other. “Nearest the Pin” on that day was won by our very own CEO, Phil, and “Longest Drive” by our Oxford office's Kris. The top three were as follows; third place on 70 points Garfield; second place on 71 was our Chairman, Robin, and first place for the second year in succession with 72 points, Lewis.

Both courses provided a stern test of all the golfers and the weekend probably set a record for the number of balls lost, especially in the water at The Players Club.

It was a great weekend - attendees all have a year practice now to see if someone can steal the crown off Lewis next year!
